Homework

As from week beginning 10 March, there will be a change in homework in Years 3, 4, 5 & 6. To support children’s progress in reading, children will be bringing an additional reading book home matched to their ability levels. Please take a few minutes each day to listen to your child read. Please find attached some strategies that we use in school that you can use to support your child.

Homework in Year 3/4

Mrs Tyrie, Miss Sharratt and Mr Bee’s class is as follows:

  • Reading comprehension will be sent home on a Thursday and returned the following Monday.
  • Ability matched reading book will be sent home on a Friday to be returned the following Friday.
  • Spellings sent home on a Thursday to be tested on a Friday.
  • Mathletics completed on line and matched to children’s ability.

 

Homework in Year 5

Miss Wallace, and Mrs Hindmarch’s class is as follows:

  • Ability matched reading book and Gateshead Library book sent home on a Tuesday to be returned as requested.
  • Reading comprehension sent home on a Thursday to be returned on a Monday.
  • Spellings sent home on a Tuesday to be tested on a Friday.
  • Maths homework linked to weekly topic where appropriate sent out on a Thursday to be returned on a Monday (Mathletics coming soon).

Homework in Year 6

Mr Kelly & Mr Archer’s class is as follows:

  • Ability matched reading book and Gateshead Library book sent home on a Tuesday to be returned as requested.
  • Spellings sent home on a Wednesday to be tested on a Friday.
  • Reading comprehension/grammar/writing sent home on a Wednesday to be returned on a Monday.
  • Maths homework set usually from CGP books, but linked to weekly topic to be sent home on a Wednesday and returned on a Monday (Mathletics coming soon).

 

Below is a reminder about homework in Years 1 & 2 and Reception

Class 2R

  • On a Monday the children take home a list of spellings to learn and be tested on a Friday.
  • On a Friday they take their book bag home with their levelled guided reading book, the comprehension linked to the book and a maths homework from their book.
  • Book bags back in on a Tuesday at the latest please.

 

Class 1MR

  • On a Thursday they take their book bag home with their spellings to learn, their levelled guided book and basic skills to learn in maths.
  • Book bags back in on a Tuesday at the latest please.

 

Class 1/2S

  • On a Friday they take their book bag home with their spellings to learn, their levelled guided reading book and maths homework from their book.
  • Book bags back in on a Tuesday at the latest please.

 

Reception

Every child will bring home a book bag which includes the following:

  • A reading book to read to an adult
  • A class library book to share with an adult
  • Tricky words and phonics to practise
  • Handwriting or a piece of writing
  • Maths linked to learning in school.

 

Remember, reading at home does not have to be reading a book, it could be reading on an I-pad, laptop, kindle or anything that your child has an interest in.
